The Further Education Centre Abbeyleix was established in 1991. The Centre is located in a brightly refurbished building which was, at one time, a Vocational School. It operates under the auspices of the Co. Laois VEC and in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Education and Science.

The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) is the main focus of provision in the Centre. Post Leaving Certificate courses are offered at the Centre and the Back to Education Initiative provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults.

There is a Centre policy of promoting a philosophy of adult education which includes a culture and ethos of self-directed and lifelong learning among participants. The Centre attracts a very diverse student population which provides for a stimulating learning environment. Students’ statements confirm that learning as an adult is a more pleasant and enjoyable experience second time around.

The Staff of the Centre are a committed and professional team. The Centre prides itself on its academic success, the support it gives its students, the progression to 3rd level institutions and to employment, and the excellent facilities available in the Centre.
