Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent standard of education;
  • Successful completion of interview;
  • Applicants are also requested to present samples of their work;
  • Good drawing skills are essential.

Opportunities/Progression

Students who successfully complete this course may have the option to continue their studies in the Centre progressing to the Art and Business QQI Level 6 course. The full QQI Level 5 award facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a range of third level institutions. Graduates can apply for any art/design course in the Institutes of Technology, NCAD or abroad with a quality portfolio. For those students who do not wish to attend third level, there are many employment opportunities in the area of art and creative enterprise.

Art Exhibition

The year’s work culminates in a group exhibition in the Dunamaise Arts Centre where students are given the opportunity to exhibit their work. The Graduation Show is an annual feature of the Abbeyleix Further Education calendar and the Dunamaise Arts Centre’s exhibition programme.

Costs

Approximately €200 for course materials. Please refer to the Costs Section on page 1 for details of additional registration, certification and transport costs.
